Barb Barton 2025

"It is amazing how life changes and evolves. For most of my life, she was a singer/songwriter and performed her music at venues across the Great Lakes region and the East Coast. In 2019, one week after having a joint replacement in my right basal thumb joint, I was involved in a minor car accident which injured that same hand and wrist. It resulted in several more surgeries to my right hand and put me out of commission from guitar playing for almost two full years.

In 2018, I released two books, a CD, and a documentary short film, winning state and national awards for mywork. I went on a book tour and was scheduled to attend several film festivals where my film Water would have been shown, but Covid put a halt to that, with everything going on shutdown mode the following year.

I continued to do virtual book talks and found myself pausing the music as the demand increased for me as a speaker. I retired from my job as an endangered species biologist in 2023 and took up astrophotography and solar photography as my retirement hobby. I released a second award-winning documentary short film, We are Stardust: The Interconnection of All Things in 2024.

Everyone says retirement asks one to redefine themselves. Some days I don't know who I am. Other days I know exactly who I am, the same curious woman who seeks new experiences, undiscovered places, and joy. While I may not be performing anymore, I am still creating beautiful photographs of galaxies and nebulas, northern lights, and our beautiful Sun. And creating film experiences that I hope connect you to the Universe, the Earth, and each other."
